Reunion 2005

The 2005 reunion of the 461st Bombardment Group was held in Washington, DC.  The group gathered on October 19 at the registration, saw the sights of Washington during the next few days, met for their traditional banquet Friday night and concluded the reunion with their Memorial Breakfast Sunday morning, October 23.

A special thanks goes out to Glenda Price and Barbara Alden for providing a blow-by-blow description of the Reunion 2005.

We gathered at the Hilton Washington Dulles Airport Hotel.

As we entered the hotel, we were greeted by Bob and Peggy Hayes at the registration desk.

We spent most of Thursday at the new Air and Space Museum just a half mile from the hotel.

The Enola Gay attracted a lot of attention.

The Enola Gay is just as empressive today as it was back in 1945.

I was surprised to see the Concord in the museum.

The space shuttle Enterprise was also on display.

I got to see a P-40 similar to the one used to shepherd the 461st formations.

I didn't realize that when I took this picture that I got a good shot of the SR-71 below.

Thursday night we gathered at the hotel for hamburgers and hotdogs.

The Thursday night gathering.

Friday morning we headed for DC to tour national monuments with the first stop at the Iwo Jima Memorial.

It was then on to the major attract of the day - the World War II Memorial.

Looking south toward the Lincoln Memorial.

The Atlantic arch.

Looking north toward the Washington Monument.

The Korean War Memorial.

The Roosevelt Memorial.

Everyone will remember how close we came to the Gas and Electric building where a bomb was discovered.

Our banquet was held Friday night with fantastic food, music and company.

The dance music was great and many took advantage.

We managed to get all the veterans togather for a group photo. This is just one of the many pictures of this group.

On Saturday we headed for Arlington Cemeterywith the first stop at the Kenedy Memorial.

The Arlington House provides a good backdrop to the Kennedy Memorial.

We were fortunate to catch the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknow Soldier.

We then went on to the Arlington House for a glimpse of life some 200 years ago.

The scenery from the Arlington House might have been fantastic if we had had good weather.

We had an Italian buffet for the Squadron Dinners Saturday night

The Memorial Breakfast was started with the presentation of the Colors.

Barbara Alden did a fantastic job of organizing the Memorial Breakfast, getting the Color Guard and Chaplian Bower.
