Reunion 2004

The 2004 reunion of the 461st Bombardment Group was held in Louisville, KY.  The group gathered on October 6 at the registration, saw the sights of Louisville during the next few days, met for their traditional banquet Saturday night and concluded the reunion with their Memorial Breakfast Sunday morning, October 10.

My thanks to Orville Hommert for some of these pictures.  Without his help, this photo album would not be nearly as complete.

A special thanks goes out to Barbara Alden for providing a blow-by-blow description of the Reunion 2004.

Those who have high speed Internet access might be interested in the Reunion 2004 video.  If you don't have high speed Internet access, the same pictures are below.

Gathering of members before Dr. Hudra's presentation.

Thursday night Dr. Les Hudra made a presentation on what it was like on the ground in Szolnok, Hungary when the 461st bombed the marshalling yard.

Our first stop on Friday was to Churchhill Downs.

Because of the crowd, we were split into two groups to tour Churchhill Downs.

Everyone was in awe by the size of the stands.

The first race was in 1875; the most recent was the 130th race.

We even got to see some horses in training. Beauty in motion.

Saturday morning we split into three groups to visit horse farms around Louisville.

I was a member of this group. We went to the Adena Springs farm.

I don't know the name of the horses seen by the other group.

They were just as beautiful.

We also took the time to visit the Vietnam Memorial.

The plaques aren't quite readable in these shots.

But the Memorial is very unique and well worth a visit.

The Vietnam Memorial itself. It would have been better if the sun had come out.

Two groups enjoyed a fantastic lunch at the Holly Hill Inn.

The house is a beautiful old mansion.

The decor was fantastic and the food was great.

A total of 53 members of the 461st attended the reunion.

There was a very impressive turnout from the children of members.
