As a crew, when we decided we wanted caps to wear, I wrote Branch Rickey who was then President of the Cardinals.  He refused.  Our tail gunner, Herb Weber, wrote to Connie Mack.  He sent them.

I have duplicate copies of the letter his son wrote Herb and the letter Connie sent Herb.
